That All May Be One
“That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You.”
— John 17:21
The Promise of Unity
Jesus made a remarkable promise in John 14:12–15:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
If Jesus promises to answer the prayers of His believers, what does He Himself ask the Father for? In John 17:20–21, He prays:
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
God’s Plan to Make It Possible
God has prepared the means to fulfill this prayer. Jesus declared in Matthew 24:14:
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.”
This gospel of the Kingdom is the faith described in Jude 3:
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you, exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”
One Voice, One Faith
The late Rev. G. I. Williamson dedicated his life to teaching everything that Jesus calls His believers to know and hold fast. His sermons reflect a deep commitment to the unified faith that binds all true believers together in Christ.
It is in that same spirit of unity that this collection is offered. If all Christians were to sing the same Psalms — the very songs God gave His people — what a harmony the world would share.
The 1912/1914 Psalter
Romans 10:11–15 reminds us why proclaiming this faith to all people matters:
“For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?”
The Psalms are one of the great gifts God has given His church for that very purpose — to proclaim, to unify, and to worship with one voice across every nation and tongue.
Presented here are all 413 psalm settings from The Psalter, originally produced by the United Presbyterian Church in 1912 and republished by the Christian Reformed Church in 1914. Each is available as a PDF music sheet, ready to sing.
